We offer a variety of programs which motivate students to engage in productive learning! They are:

The S.T.E.A.M. Program at Sylvania Heights Elementary School is designed to integrate science, math, and the arts. The STEAM curriculum shows students how all the components of education and life work together. The STEAM program prepares students for the jobs of the 21st century with technology at its core. The use of technology is infused throughout all of the subjects and classroom activities. The STEAM program is implemented in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Note: All of our current students will be automatically enrolled in S.T.E.A.M. If you are interested in joining the Sylvania Heights family and participating in S.T.E.A.M., you can Apply today!

Extended Foreign Language Program

The Extended Foreign Language Program has been implemented at Sylvania Heights for the last seventeen years. Our school was  a pioneer, starting  this program along with three other schools in our district. The program teaches Spanish as a Second Language to students in Kindergarten to Fifth Grades. The EFL program offers a school within a school approach to world language education. The goal of the program is to offer students the opportunity to become proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish. At the elementary level, the program is designed for a group of students at each grade level who, after participation in the program for one school year, are enrolled in the subsequent grade level with the ultimate goal of creating a K-5 continuum.

Robotics Team

Our Robotics Team is using Lego Mindstorms to program a robot to perform various tasks and navigate obstacles. The team will compete at the Youth Fair.

Gifted Program

Our gifted program serves over 60 students in grades 2-5. Students participate in creative activities in the subjects of Reading and Language Arts.. Students are graded in these subject areas, as well as their other subjects. The program participates in District competitions such as the Spelling Bee, Poetry Contests, and other school site competitions.

Students in our Broadcasting team learn all aspects of running the morning announcements on WSHE TV from writing copy, running the teleprompter, operating the camera, and anchoring the news. These hardworking students keep the entire SHE family informed of current and upcoming events.

Our Safety Patrols help monitor the hallways, breezeways, PE Shelter, and cafeteria in order to help ensure that our students travel safely when arriving and departing school. Look for the yellow patrol belts.

Science Club

Science Club members meet periodically before and after school to discuss what is going on in the world of science. Students choose and engage in experiments and scientific investigations. This club includes special guests and field trips.
